After she repeatedly rejects him, he seeks a love potion from the sorceress Circe. Circe becomes enamoured with Glaucus and offers her own love instead. Glaucus fiercely rejects her and declares his devotion to Scylla.

Green with envy and a wounded heart, Circe’s jealousy drives her to cause irreversible harm to Scylla by transforming her into a hideous sea monster. She brews a noxious potion drawn from “dreadful roots” and while chanting her spell, pours it into the secluded waters where Scylla frequently bathes.

Saturated emerald tones and flowing drapery infuse the cover with an otherworldly sense of depth, evoking the atmosphere of ancient magic and dark enchantment.
